The Great Finisher…

By Macy F. Meyer

Adam was always an eager learner and “doer.” He had single minded determination to finish any project he started. The most compelling example of this was his golf cart. When he won 5th place at the 2003 State Wrestling Championships and the referee raised his hand, I know his first thought was, “Wow! I finally get a golf cart!” I promised I would get him one if he placed at state.

Within two days of him placing and his team winning state the constant “grinding” on his dad would occur… Can we get one today?… I’ve already got three picked out on the internet… I found one in Commerce City… The guy down the street has one for sale…Needless to say, we got one quickly!
From there he painted it, put lights on it, turn signals, flood lights, lift kit, wheels, tires, fire extinguisher, rear view mirror, etc. When he got his new brush guard at home, he put it on the cart at 2:00 am because he wanted to get it done.

On Father’s Day he said, “Dad, I got you a present!” He couldn’t stand his own excitement, pacing around until I looked at it. When I went out to the garage, he had put new wheels on it. I had told him two weeks before that it would look good with new wheels.

He paid for almost every accessory to the cart by himself. He did 100% of the work and he was relentless at finishing everything he started. Adam finished his life here on earth the same way. Something inside him must have said, “Let’s get this done and move on to be in heaven, that is what I want to do next!”

So in Adam’s memory for his Macedog Memorial Golf Tournament, Alex Etzen and Carl Ellis helped to finish off his cart. Alex installed a working CD player and he also assembled the all-weather cover. Carl arranged to get the seats reupholstered and hand carved the famous “Macy Adam Meyer” tattoo into the backseat (the tattoo was designed by Kevin Montoya).

Several golfers and numerous hearts have been touched by Adam’s golf cart. This was his prize possession and he would be very proud to have it displayed at the Macedog Memorial Golf Tournaments.
