Macedog Express
The History of the Macedog Express
The Macedog Foundation was established in July 2003 after the tragic death of Adam Meyer. Adam was traveling to Iowa to visit his grandmother with his friend, Andy Etzen, when he fell asleep at the wheel. The 4Runner he was driving rolled 2½ times. Andy escaped the accident without injury.
The Meyer Family and the Adam’s wrestling coaches from Ponderosa High School turned their dream into reality on Tuesday, November 11th, 2003 when the Macedog Express made its initial appearance. The bus was christened with a bottle of milk by Paul Meyer, Adam’s brother, in the Target parking lot at 10:30 pm along with 100 witnesses. The bus then made its first trip with the wrestling team to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Macedog Express has since made several hundreds trips safely transporting teens all over Colorado and out of state to a variety of activities. Some of these trips include sporting events, local church youth groups, DECA, German Exchange program at Ponderosa and Chaparral High Schools, Race for the Cure, and senior citizens have traveled to the mountains to experience the leaves changing color in the fall and have gone downtown to view the Christmas lights.
One of Adam’s dreams was to buy a bus, put a lift kit on it, take some seats out, and carpet the inside. This would become his home during his college years. Adam’s dream has now become a reality. The Macedog Express is a 47 passenger touring bus used to transport athletes and activity teams to wherever competition takes them. It also serves as a moving memorial to Macy Adam Meyer. It is a vehicle of integrity, which is what Adam stood for. All riders have the opportunity to touch Adam’s picture (which is placed above the door) as they exit the bus. This serves as a reminder that “When we ride, Adam rides with us.”
